Alfred E. Mercer AKA: Al, Papa AL, The old Goat Al Mercer passed peacefully away at 10:45PM Saturday, 1/17/2004, in his home with his wife of 29 years, Betty Labit, and his son, Speedy and his wife Terri, at his side after a long battle with emphysema and cancer. Al, son of Moses E. Mercer and Martina, is survived by his wife, Betty, his sons Speedy and Tommy, a daughter, Carma Beason and a Foster son, Edward L. Kainer. Al's grandkids are Guice and Rick Mercer and Jason and Erin Beason. Al's great-grandchildren are Daniel, Brianna, Sarah, Lane and Anastasia Mercer and Jada Beason.
Memorial donations can be made to the Cancer Society Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave., LA 70801, (225) 927-2273 or to the family. Memorial services will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd, Greenwell Springs, LA 70739, 225-261-4650 and are scheduled for 1:00 PM Thursday, 1/22/2004.
